I'm Learning American Sign Language

I remember trying to make sense of the man's card in the department store where, moments earlier, my mother gave me a dollar to give to him.

"Here," I offered.

"Thank you," he signed in ASL. I had no idea what he'd meant.

The hand formations on the back of the card were showing me how to sign the English alphabet. The front of the card explained how, since he was Deaf, finding work was often tough.

I've been thinking about that moment all these years and now I am officially going to start learning ASL and all the rich nuances this language offers.

Join me on my quest to sign proficiently enough to carry simple conversations with friends and strangers alike! Thanks for your time. :) -Fritz
