While many of the members of the new cabinet of Amsterdam are pushing toward banning non-residents from their coffee shops, the Mayor Eberhard van der Laan has allowed the shops to continue their sales to tourists saying that the around 1.5 million tourists that come to amsterdam to do trade with the coffee shops would just turn to local dealers increasing crime rate and reversing all the work done to reduce crime in the city. The justice authority stated that the mayor did not have the authority to do this and he jumped to conclusions. The mayor stated that he wanted to reduce sales to minors and keep marijuana at a healthy level.
