Chances are you've heard about Cliven Bundy by now. Cliven Bundy is a rancher in Nevada currently engaged in a stand-off with the federal government over a matter of land. This story has been in the works for two-and-a-half decades now, dating back to 1989.

In the early 90's, the Bureau of Land Management designated the land on which Bundy's cattle is grazing on for strict conservation efforts due to endangered species in the area. Unfortunately for Bundy, he never had any legal claim over the land; he is claiming "ancestral rights" because his family has always used that land, but that does not grant legal ownership.

Bundy has been fighting the government on this issue for decades, raking up a mountain of fines. Bundy has stated, however, that he is willing to pay the fines - to the State. That alone is an acknowledgement of guilt so what difference does it make who he pays?

Bundy does not want to pay the Federal Government because he says he does not acknowledge their authority.
