While the United States slept, things were busy on the other side of the globe. Here is our recap of everything Olympics you may have missed overnight.

*Curling — and all the obligatory curling memes — commenced. Canada opened its bid to defend the Olympic title by scraping past Germany 11-8.

*The U.S. women's hockey team stomped Switzerland.

*U.S. alpine skier Julia Mancuso snagged the bronze in women's super combined.

*U.S. speedskaters J.R. Celski and Eddy Alvarez advanced to the short track semi-finals.

*Some snowboarders aren’t too stoked about the Sochi halfpipe. "It's the Olympics. It should be flawless," American Danny Davis said. "What a lame showcase of snowboarding, and what a lame way to treat the athletes."

*Turns out “stoked” translates to drunk” in Russian.

*The Winter Games witnessed its first wardrobe malfunction.

*Don’t confuse ice dancer Charlie White’s pretend girlfriend with his real girlfriend.

*Shaun White touched a boar’s nose.
