Prior to Orlando City earning a Major League Soccer expansion franchise, the Lions and Tampa Bay showcased an exciting rivalry as Central Florida’s two sides in the then-USL Pro. In 2014, Orlando defeated Tampa Bay by a 4-1 scoreline in the Third Round of the Open Cup. Since then, the teams have met each other multiple times in preseason preparation but the April 20 match will mark the first officially sanctioned competition since Orlando’s final year in USL.
