15-year-old Austin Eggleston was born with three congenital heart defects.
A huge Star Wars fan, he and his cardiologist, Dr Phillip Thrush, decided that when a heart was finally available for his much-needed transplant, the news would be delivered in a somewhat unconventional manner. As soon as Eggleston saw Dr Thrush walk in dressed as Wookie warrior Chewbacca, he knew his luck had changed.
"Holy balls!" the boy screamed as he jumped up and down, excitedly.
Austin received his new heart in the late hours of St Patrick's Day
Austin is also a fan of Marvel, and spent some of his time in the hospital campaigning on Twitter for a screening of Avengers: Infinity War for the kids there who can't go to the movies.
@Marvel As someone waiting for a heart transplant how many retweets do I need to get a showing of Avengers Infinity war shown to the children at @LurieChildrens Chicago who may not be able to see it in theaters. Please @Marvel as someone who loves you guys I want this! #Avengers— Austin Eggleston (@TheReelThanos) February 10, 2018
