Soda Sales Fall For 12th Straight Year

Fewer Americans are drinking soda.  A report by the trade publication "Beverage Digest" says soft drink sales were down about 1.2% in 2016.  It's the 12th straight year of declines.

Industry experts blame higher sugar taxes and consumers opting for healthier drinks.  The digest estimates the per capita total at about 640 8 ounce servings of soda per person last year.  That's the lowest total since 1985 when the publication first started tracking soda sales.
