St Johns County Boy Arrested in Missing 13-Year-old Girl's Death

ST. AUGUSTINE -- In St Augustine, sheriff's deputies have charged a 14-year-old boy with the murder of a missing 13 year old girl. St. Johns County Sheriff Rob Hardwick says "the suspect is under arrest and in the custody of the department of Juvenile Justice... he is charged with second-degree murder... we want to put the public at ease that he is in custody."

Tristyn Bailey was last seen at a community center in the Durbin Crossing neighborhood in northern St. Johns County early Sunday morning. Her parents reported her missing around 10 a.m. and a neighbor found the teen's remains while searching his neighborhood that afternoon.

Hardwick says the investigation is still "early" and involves several crime scenes. He didn't give reporters many details. He also urged the public not to believe social media, which has been very active about the case. Hardwick also criticized reporters who went to Bailey's school Monday morning for reaction.
