Why I don’t celebrate St. Patrick’s Day (anymore)…
Several years ago, I “celebrated” a little too hard and it cost me big time.
No, it wasn’t just a bad hangover the next day.
Or a text I wish I hadn’t sent.
I physically fought my friend and landed myself in jail.
It took me YEARS (and lots of heartache and money) to undo the damage done that day. Luckily, it was the wake-up call I needed to set me on a much better path.
So, if you’re trying to abstain from drinking today (or any other day for that matter), here’s what helped me when I first gave up drinking:
1️⃣ Don’t announce it to everyone. People sometimes have a funny way of challenging your new sobriety. How do you keep it private without making it obvious that you’re not drinking?
2️⃣ Grab a mocktail. For me, it was just a seltzer water with a cocktail straw. Most people won’t notice or care that you’re sipping on something non-alcoholic.
3️⃣ Practice gratitude. Instead of focusing on what you’re missing out on by not drinking, what are you gaining?
