Two Volusia County men became heroes Tuesday afternoon when they stopped to help a deputy being attacked by a man he was trying to take into custody after a traffic stop. The suspect allegedly hit Deputy Zimmerer in the head, and tried to bite his leg, but two witnesses stopped and subdued the suspect until other deputies could arrive and take him into custody. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said the two will receive citizens awards in recognition of their efforts.
