Authorities in Missouri said that multiple people died and were injured after a tornado touched down early Wednesday (April 5) morning near the village of Glenallen in Bollinger County.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said that at least five people were killed, and several others were injured. The National Weather Service estimated that the tornado had peak wind speeds of 130 mph.

"Where I was at, even though I was just a half-mile from where the damage was, there was stone-cold silence," Glenallen resident Lorrie Yount told Fox Weather. "It was very eerie. There was a lot of rumbling in the distance. There was a lot of lightning, but it was just unreal. It was a scary, spooky silence."

The National Weather Service said that the storms could produce more tornadoes throughout the day.

"It's imperative that everyone in this region closely monitor the latest local forecasts and be prepared to take cover if warnings are issued, or seek higher ground in the event of flash flood warnings," the NWS said.

Storm chaser Brandon Clement used a drone to capture the extent of the destruction caused by the tornado and shared the video on Twitter.
