Rays Take Series Opener From Yankees

The Tampa Bay Rays (65-44) defeated the New York Yankees (55-51) 5-1 on Monday night at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

Tyler Glasnow (5-3, 3.15) got the start and was dominant. He allowed just one earned run - a solo shot from Jake Bauers in the second - on three hits while striking out eight and walking two in seven innings of work. Robert Stephenson worked a scoreless eighth before Pete Fairbanks closed the door in the ninth.

The Rays got homers from Brandon Lowe, Wander Franco, Isaac Paredes and Josh Lowe to account for the offense. Paredes and Yandy Diaz both had two hits on the night.

The Rays will now look to make it three wins in a row when they play the Yankees in the middle game of their three-game series on Tuesday night. Righthander Zach Eflin (11-6, 3.64) is expected to start in search of his twelfth win of the year. Lefty Carlos Rodon (1-3, 5.75) is scheduled to start for the Yankees. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 7:05 PM - Ronnie & T-Kras begin pregame coverage with the Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
