Rays Shut Out Padres To Take Opener In San Diego

The Tampa Bay Rays (12-14) defeated the San Diego Padres (17-9) 1-0 on Friday night in San Diego. With the win, the Rays have now won three in a row.

Shane Baz (3-0, 2.45) was the story of the night pitching seven shutout innings in which he allowed just four hits while striking out six and walking one. Manny Rodriguez worked the eighth and Garrett Cleavinger earned his first save of the season after working a scoreless ninth.

The Rays only offense came in the third when Yandy Diaz hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Taylor Walls to take a 1-0 lead. That would prove to be the only offense of the game.

The Rays now will try to win the series against the Padres on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 8:40 PM - Chris Adams-Wall begins pregame coverage at 8:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
