The Tampa Bay Rays (36-30) defeated the Boston Red Sox (32-36) 10-8 in eleven innings on Monday night at Fenway Park in Boston.
This was a wild one throughout, as the Rays built leads of 3-0, 6-3, 7-5 and 8-7 that they were unable to hold onto. Each time the Red Sox had an answer, but not enough to take the lead - after the Rays got two in the top of the eleventh they were able to close the door in the bottom of the eleventh to earn the win.
Ian Seymour (1-0, 0.00) got the win in his major league debut, pitching the tenth and eleventh innings and allowing just one unearned run in the tenth.
The Rays will now look to win the series against the Red Sox coming up on Tuesday night. First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 7:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
