The Boston Red Sox (53-45) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (50-47) 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park. With the win, the Red Sox have now won ten in a row, including sweeping the Rays in a four-game series. Tampa Bay goes into the All-Star Break on a four-game losing streak.
The Red Sox got a run in the third inning on an interference error by Junior Caminero at third base. In the fourth, the Rays answered with a sacrifice fly from Josh Lowe to tie the game 1-1. That would prove to be the only offense of the game for Tampa Bay.
In the sixth inning Red Sox took control of the game. Trevor Story hit a RBI single to make it 2-1, before Ceddanne Rafaela hit a two-run homer to make it 4-1, which would prove to be the final score. Ryan Pepiot (6-7, 3.38) allowed four runs - three of them earned on sixven hits in six innings while striking out three and walking one in the losing effort.
The Rays are now off for the MLB All-Star Break and will next be in action when they return home for a three-game series against the Orioles on Friday night. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 7:35 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 6:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
