The Tampa Bay Rays (57-59) defeated the Los Angeles Angels (55-60) 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon to win the three-game series in Anaheim. The Rays get the series win in the first game of a four-city, twelve-game road trip throughout the West Coast.
Junior Caminero had a two homer day in this game, hitting a home run in the first inning to make it 2-0. Nick Fortes hit a solo shot in the second to make it 3-0, before Junior's second homer in the third made it 4-0. The Angels answered with four runs in their half of the third to tie the game 4-4. That would remain the score until the seventh inning, when Christopher Morel came through with a solo homer that would prove to be the difference in this game.
Shane Baz got the start and allowed four earned runs on five hits in four innings of work in which he struck out nine and walked two. Garrett Cleavinger (1-4, 2.20) got the win out of the bullpen after pitching a scoreless sixth inning. Pete Fairbanks set the Angels down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth to earn his nineteenth save of the season.
The Rays are now off on Thursday before travelling to Seattle to play the Mariners in a three-game series which begins on Friday night. Drew Rasmussen (9-5, 2.81) is scheduled to start for the Mariners.
