Guardians Rally To Take Series From Rays In Extras

The Cleveland Guardians (66-66) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (64-69) 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon in Cleveland to win the three-game series.

The Rays built a lead of 3-1 when Brandon Lowe hit a two-run homer in the top of the third inning. The Guardians rallied back with a run in the fifth, before Nolan Jones tied the game in the ninth with a solo homer off Pete Fairbanks. For Fairbanks, it was his fifth blown save of the season.

In the tenth inning Kyle Manzardo hit a RBI single off Griffin Jax to lift the Guardians to the win. Cleveland won the game in spite of a good start from Drew Rasmussen, who pitched six innings in which he allowed just two earned runs on four hits while striking out five and walking one.

The Rays are now off on Thursday before travelling to Washington DC to play the Nationals in a three game series beginning on Friday night. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 6:45 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting the Inside Pitch at 5:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
