The Boston Red Sox (17-22) shut out the Tampa Bay Rays (25-13) 2-0 on Friday night at Fenway Park. With the win, the Rays saw their winning streak snapped at seven consecutive games.
Connelly Early (3-2, 3.16) picked up the win after pitching seven shutout innings in which he allowed four hits while striking out eight and walking one. Aroldis Chapman worked a perfect ninth inning for his eighth save for Boston. Jesse Scholtens (3-2, 3.29) took the loss for the Rays, allowing two earned runs on two hits in four and two-third innings in which he struck out four and walked four.
The Red Sox got all their offense on two solo home runs - Wilyer Abreu hit a solo shot in the third inning, before Ceddane Rafaela hit his in the fourth inning, to lead Boston to the win.
