The New York Mets (62-76) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (82-55) 3-2 on Monday night at Tropicana Field. With the loss, the Rays saw their winning streak snapped at four games and suffered their first lost of the homestand.
Robert Stock (1-3, 5.88) had one of his best outings of the year, pitching five and one-third shutout innings on five hits while striking out four and walking none. He out-dueled Ian Seymour (9-6, 4.21) who pitched six and one-third innings in which he allowed three earned runs on six hits while striking out ten and walking none.
The Mets got a single run off Seymour in the fourth before adding two in the seventh, including a homer from Mark Vientes. The Rays offense came in the eighth inning when Liam Hicks and Chandler Simpson both had RBI singles to pull within 3-2, which would prove to be the final score.
The Rays will look to even the three-game series when they play the Mets in the middle game of the three game series on Tuesday night. First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 6:40 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 5:30 PM on 95.7 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
