The mother of former late night talk show host David Letterman is dead. The Hollywood Reporter says Dorothy Mengering died Tuesday at the age of 95. Neither the cause, nor place of her death, was given.
Mengering made regular appearances on The Late Show when her son was host, usually from her kitchen in Indiana as she baked pies.
She made her debut on the program during the 1994 Winter Olympics by offering to bring ice skater Nancy Kerrigan hot chocolate and asking then-First Lady Hillary Clinton to help adjust the local speed limits.
Mengering went on to publish a cookbook titled, Home Cookin' With Dave's Mom.
