Man Arrested for Arson Following Molotov Cocktail Attack Over $20 Debt

SW Miami-Dade, FL – A 49-year-old man is facing arson charges after allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail at a home in southwest Miami-Dade over a $20 debt.

According to police, Carlos Butler approached a residence on the 11500 block of Southwest 187th Street on Monday, demanding payment from one of the occupants for a $20 debt.

When the woman refused and closed the door on him, Butler reportedly ignited a Molotov cocktail and hurled it at the front entrance, causing fire damage to the door.

The fire self-extinguished shortly after, but Miami-Dade Fire Rescue was still called to the scene.

Witnesses reported seeing Butler flee the area on foot.

Police later located Butler at a nearby fruit stand and apprehended him.

He initially denied involvement in the incident but eventually admitted that he had gone to the home to collect a debt.

Butler was charged with arson, criminal mischief, and attempted murder.

He is currently being held at the Miami-Dade County Jail without bond.
