Man Punches Victim, Steals His Phone and Cash During Fight Over Loud Music

Sumter County, FL - A Florida man was arrested after allegedly assaulting a man and stealing his phone and cash over a disagreement about loud music.

Police say 36-year-old Eduardo Sanchez Ruiz faces charges of robbery, larceny, and battery stemming from an incident that occurred in Sumter County over the weekend.

According to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a robbery report at a Wawa gas station in Oxford.

The victim stated that he was sitting at his kitchen counter, listening to music from his phone through a speaker, when Sanchez Ruiz entered the residence.

Sanchez Ruiz allegedly punched the victim in the face, snatched his phone, and stole $5,000 in cash.

The victim suffered a swollen right eye and facial abrasions.

Deputies located Sanchez Ruiz asleep in the backseat of a truck parked at the victim's house.

A subsequent search revealed the victim's stolen phone in Sanchez Ruiz's pocket.

While details of the altercation are redacted in the arrest affidavit, it is evident that the dispute centered around the victim's music volume.

Sanchez Ruiz is currently being held on a $4,000 bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
