Woman Arrested for DUI Sings Gospel, Urinates on Self Following Chase

Monroe County, FL - A woman was arrested on Sunday after leading police on a dangerous high-speed chase, singing gospel songs, and urinating on herself following a DUI arrest.

Deputies say 41-year-old Courtney Epps was driving a Chevy Suburban northbound in the southbound lanes of U.S. 1 when she was spotted by Florida Highway Patrol troopers.

Despite their lights and sirens, Epps continued driving recklessly, ignoring their commands.

The chase reached speeds of up to 120 mph as Epps crossed the Seven Mile Bridge and entered Marathon.

Epps continued driving at a high speed despite oncoming traffic, often veering into southbound lanes to avoid northbound vehicles.

Monroe County Sheriff's deputies attempted to stop Epps by deploying spike strips twice.

The second attempt, near Mile Marker 71, successfully punctured three of the vehicle's tires.

However, Epps continued driving at high speeds before her damaged tires flew off, damaging two vehicles parked nearby.

At Mile Marker 80, Epps' vehicle crashed into a construction site and she was taken into custody.

Police say Epps had "extremely constricted pupils and did not respond to verbal or physical stimulation, only stared straight forward in silence."

At the hospital, Epps' erratic behavior continued, as she urinated on herself in the lobby while singing gospel songs.

During treatment, she alternated between sleeping, singing, and talking to herself.

Epps initially agreed to field sobriety tests but later refused, stating that "God the father told her to stop."

She was transported to Plantation Key Jail on a charge of driving under the influence and a felony charge for fleeing or eluding with disregard for the safety of persons or property.
