VENICE -- The carcass of a beached whale that died has been towed offshore of Venice.
Mote Marine Lab officials wrapped up their necropsy of the 44-foot sperm whale that died Sunday off Venice.
Mote's Kathryn Gentile says so far, they've found no signs that the sperm whale was injured by humans or predators. Results from the necropsy could take eight to 12 weeks.
A no-swim order remains in effect for Venice Beach and nearby Caspersen Beach, as officials fear that blood and other fluids from the dead whale could draw sharks.
