Cape Coral, FL - A 16-year-old Southwest Florida student has been arrested for allegedly threatening to shoot up two Cape Coral high schools on social media.
According to police, officers received calls on Wednesday evening regarding a Snapchat threat targeting Mariner High School and Cape Coral High School.
Concerned parents who had screenshots of the message with a username attached contacted the authorities.
The message reportedly included a picture of a gun and a caption threatening violence.
Detectives immediately launched an investigation in collaboration with school resource officers.
Utilizing the information from the screenshots, investigators were able to identify and locate the student responsible, Tyler Coulter.
Coulter, when questioned by police, claimed the threat was merely a prank.
However, authorities also discovered another threatening post referencing a shooting in Cape Coral.
Despite his claims, the seriousness of the threats resulted in Coulter's arrest on Wednesday night.
He was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center on a felony charge of Written or Electronic Threats to Conduct a Mass Shooting.
