Homestead, FL - A horrific video captured a dog being punched in the face by its owner in a South Florida neighborhood.
The incident, believed to have occurred near 288th Street in Homestead, has sparked outrage from residents and animal rights activists, prompting a swift response from authorities.
The footage, posted by Only in Dade, shows the owner holding the dog by the leash while repeatedly striking it in the face.
Neighbors expressed disgust at the cruelty, with Fernando Zamora telling NBC 6 Miami, "That's not right... They shouldn't own animals." Another resident, Jean, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that animals "don't deserve that."
The Friends of Miami Animal Foundation (FMAF) shared an image believed to be the dog's inadequate shelter, raising further concerns.
FMAF president Yolanda Berkowitz fears this isn't an isolated incident, suggesting a pattern of abuse."This public act of violence speaks volumes about animal welfare in our community," she stated.
Miami-Dade Police confirmed they are aware of the video and have launched an investigation after receiving a tip through Crimestoppers.
Homestead Police pledged their full support, acknowledging the video's disturbing nature and their commitment to animal welfare.
They emphasized their collaboration with Miami-Dade PD.
According to FMAF, animal control will conduct a welfare check once a report is filed.
If the owner faces charges, the dog(s) will be taken into protective custody by Miami-Dade Animal Services as evidence.
As of Monday afternoon, authorities have not identified the owner, and no arrests have been made.
Crimestoppers is offering a reward for any information leading to an arrest. Anyone with knowledge of the incident is urged to call 305-471-TIPS.
