TAMPA -- Police say two cars were racing down Dale Mabry in daylight Monday morning, just before a crash that killed a woman. One driver is in custody.
According to TPD, 22 year old Andy Moya Robaina was driving south near Raymond James Stadium shortly after 10 a.m. in his BMW 335i. Another car was driving alongside, both moving at high speed as if racing.
Robaina's car struck the victim's vehicle, a Nissan Versa, as it was crossing Dale Mabry at West South Avenue. The passenger, a woman in her early 60s, died at a hospital. The driver, a man in his 70s, is hospitalized in stable condition. The other car, dark in color, just missed the Nissan and did not stop or return to the scene.
Robaina is in jail charged with felony Vehicular Homicide and unlawful racing. Police are working to identify the other driver.
