This past Sunday was the hottest day ever recorded on the planet.

July 21, 2024, came in at 62.76 degrees Fahrenheit, the hottest day on Earth since at least 1940.

This considers all the overnight temperatures and the afternoon temperatures averaged across the globe.

This has been the hottest summer on record for the Western and Northeast portions of the U.S. Global heat waves also hit Europe and Russia.

Climate change will increase the chances of record-breaking heat and continues to be a driving factor for other extreme weather events.
