One of the fastest-growing cities in the state is about to get a new school.

Legacy High School will open in the Tradition area of Port St. Lucie in time for the 2025-26 academic year.

"We have been mailing letters out to all of the families whose students live in the zone for Legacy"

St. Lucie Public Schools Deputy Superintendent Helen Wild tells CBS 12 News that there will be no seniors during the first year and students currently attending other high schools have options.

"Our students that are moving up into tenth or eleventh grade do have the option to stay at their current school if they would prefer to."

But she says Thursday is the deadline to opt out by phone, online or by visiting one of the school district's offices.

There will be no senior students at the school during the first year, when around 1.500 students are expected to attend. The school will ultimately have 2,000 students.

Legacy High School contains ZIP Codes 34953 W of Rosser Rd/Power Line, 34972, 34986 W of I-95, 34987, and 34988.

The school is being built along Crosstown Parkway.
