Lake Worth Beach, FL - A 17-year-old boy died and two others were hospitalized after being pulled into a rip current at Lake Worth Beach.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that emergency crews responded to reports of swimmers in distress on Saturday afternoon.

The incident took place near the 3000 block of South Ocean Boulevard.

Lifeguards from Lake Worth Beach, along with Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, rushed to the scene and were able to retrieve all three victims from the water.

Despite efforts to revive him through CPR, a 17-year-old male was transported to Bethesda Hospital East, where he was later pronounced dead.

Two others—identified as a 12-year-old boy and another 17-year-old boy—were taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center.

Authorities reported both surviving victims were conscious, alert, and in stable condition following the rescue.

The sheriff’s office has not released the names of those involved, and no further updates were immediately provided about the circumstances leading to the incident.

Rip currents, which can form along any beach with breaking waves—including freshwater areas like the Great Lakes—are fast-moving channels of water that flow away from the shore.

They are one of the leading hazards for beachgoers and are often difficult to spot until it’s too late.

Officials continue to urge swimmers to remain cautious near the ocean and to follow all safety guidelines issued by lifeguards, especially during periods of high surf or strong currents.
