After a year in Miami, Fleet Week is back in Fort Lauderdale.
Three Navy ships - amphibious landing ship USS New York, submarine USS New Hampshire and guided missile destroyer USS Cole - and the Coast Guard Cutter Tampa pulling into Port Everglades this morning for the start of Fleet Week Fort Lauderdale.
About 1,200 service members will be participating in various events through the 30th, including attending tonight's Marlins' game, tag sharks, and participate in the Top Gun Olympics, Dancing with the Stars and Stripes and a chili cook-off.
Rear Admiral John Hewitt, Navy Region Southeast Commander, says the crews will also give the public tours of their ships, "and expose them to the Navy and the Marine Corps. To show them where their taxpayer dollars are going. And show 'em what a professional and lethal force, if required, and demonstrate some of those capabilities."

He adds Fleet Week is also part recruiting tool, "to inspire the next generation of young men and young women to wear the cloth of the nation and to replace people like me and one day man our ships, our submarines, our aircraft and go out and do the nation's bidding."
He says year's events are extra special because both the Navy and Marine Corps are celebrating their 250th anniversaries.
