The Palm Beach County School Board is poised to take emergency action on Wednesday to get rid of DEI policies.
The School District is concerned about losing $300-million in federal funding.
The Florida Department of Education is ordering all districts to confirm they comply with orders from the U.S. Department of Ed, which says districts that fail to comply could lose federal funding.
The deadline to show state officials confirmation was last week. Superintendent Michael Burke signed a form assuring compliance in time and now Board members must formally approve the changes, which include references to affirmative action in hiring and racial balance in student assignments.
The school board is holding a workshop on Wednesday afternoon and then will have a regular meeting at 5 p.m. during which members will vote on the issue.
The School District employs a "Chief of Equity and Wellness." We reached out to the district and was told the school board will vote on changing Keith Oswald's title and responsibilities at Wednesday's meeting.
