Watch: Sunrise Mayor Places Stanley Cup Wager with Edmonton Mayor

The Florida Panthers are on the road to repeat as Stanley Cup Champs, and the Mayor of the City of Sunrise has made a friendly wager with the Mayor of Edmonton.

Following last season’s game 7 Stanley Cup win at home, the City of Sunrise Commission sent Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi a signed Florida Panthers jersey, which he graciously wore in acceptance of their prior challenge. This year, Sunrise Mayor Michael J. Ryan upped the ante beyond the exchange of the winning team's jersey by challenging Edmonton to declare an official day in honor of the winning team.

“The Sunrise community—and all of South Florida—couldn’t be more excited as the Florida Panthers are on course to repeat as Stanley Cup Champions,” said Mayor Ryan. “What this team continues to accomplish on and off the ice is remarkable. They’ve made such an impact since their move to Sunrise in 1998, and every season continues to be more exceptional than the last. Mayor Sohi continues to be a great sport in our cross-continent rivalry, but we’re all rooting for the Stanley Cup to stay in Sunrise once again!”

In the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Florida Panthers defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs on their way to beating the Carolina Hurricanes in a five-game series, winning their third consecutive Eastern Conference Final.

The first two games of the Stanley Cup Final will be held at Rogers Place in Edmonton on Wednesday, June 4th, and Friday, June 6th. Amerant Bank Arena will host watch parties for both away games in anticipation of Games 3 and 4 returning to Sunrise on Monday, June 9th, and Thursday, June 12th.
