(Ocala, FL) - A Marion County Sheriff's deputy was shot early Monday morning while transporting a handcuffed female suspect who allegedly had concealed a gun in her crotch.
The deputy said 22-year-old Rheanna Harden was searched and cuffed behind her back after a traffic stop escalated and before she was placed in the back of the cruiser.
However, she managed to get her hands in front, retrieve the concealed, small-caliber handgun and fire at the deputy grazing his face.
The sheriff says the officer crashed into a pole, exited the vehicle and shot Harden in the shoulder and hip.
Both were treated and released from the hospital hours later. FDLE is investigating and Harden remains hospitalized and faces multiple charges.
