Miami, FL - A Florida woman was arrested at Miami International Airport after allegedly attempting to smuggle two turtles hidden in her bra through a TSA checkpoint, the TSA reported on Thursday.

The woman, whose identity was not disclosed, had wrapped the turtles in gauze and plastic wrap, which was discovered during the security screening process.

One turtle did not survive, while the surviving turtle was handed over to the Florida Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The TSA shared images of the incident on social media, urging travelers not to hide animals in unusual places to bypass airport security.

The agency reminded passengers that pets, including turtles, are allowed through security but must be properly removed from their carriers and carried through the checkpoint.

The carrying case must be X-rayed, and each airline may have its own pet policies.

The TSA's statement emphasized that animals should not be hidden under clothing.

Similar incidents have occurred at other airports, including a March attempt at Newark Liberty International Airport where a man tried to smuggle a turtle in his pants.

In 2024, TSA agents stopped a man attempting to bring snakes on board, and in 2023, Miami officials intercepted a bag containing smuggled Amazon parrot eggs and live birds.
