(Orlando, FL) - Governor Ron DeSantis addressed the Sheriffs Association Summer Conference in Orlando today telling law enforcement, Florida has their back. And DeSantis touted Florida as a law-and-order state, that's why crime is so low.
"We are squarely on the side of law-abiding peaceful citizens and we're not going to let inmates run the asylum."
DeSantis highlighted anti-riot laws preventing protestors from taking over streets. The death penalty option for a child sex predator. And the new registry for people convicted of animal cruelty so residents know if their neighbor is a threat to their pets.
DeSantis says he is the head of the spear when it comes to stopping the anti-law enforcement movement around the country.
"We've been as strong as any state in the country on child sexual abuse including enacting the death penalty for pedophiles." He admits the penalty will face judicial challenges.
DeSantis says he is the head of the spear when it comes to stopping the anti-law enforcement movement around the country.
"There's movements to abolish cash bail and to defund the police percolating around the country. But they run into a roadblock with me as governor of Florida."
And Governor DeSantis says while New York may be moving away from law and order, Florida remains dedicated to the badge through policies, financial incentives, and tough crime laws.
"Our policies have been strong. We nipped all of the jail-break legislation and proposals in the bud. And it never got traction in the state of Florida.
He also DeSantis also hyped the state's management of immigration enforcement and deportations at Alligator Alcatraz, the state's immigration detention center in the Everglades.
He concluded by congratulating the 500 attendees including sheriffs, sheriff’s office personnel, and other law enforcement professionals for keeping crime at an historic low in Florida.
