(Miami, FL) - A Miami federal judge is tossing part of a civil rights lawsuit seeking an injunction against the migrant detention center in the Everglades, “Alligator Alcatraz.”

In addition to dismissing part of the lawsuit, U.S. District Judge Rodolfo Ruiz is also moving the case to a different jurisdiction.

Judge Ruiz ruled in a 47-page decision that the argument that detainees did not have confidential access to an attorney was rendered moot when the Trump Administration designated the Krome North Processing Center near Miami as a site where their cases can be heard.

Also, the judge agreed with the state and federal government that "Florida’s southern district is the wrong venue to try the case because Alligator Alcatraz detention center is located in Collier County, which is in the state’s middle district."

Another federal judge is expected by Thursday to issue a ruling on another lawsuit about the environmental impact of Alligator Alcatraz.
