Broward County, FL - Authorities are investigating the theft of a 10-week-old puppy named Pebbles from the Humane Society of Broward County.
The incident occurred on September 12th, 2025, at the shelter in Dania Beach, Florida.
Surveillance footage released by the shelter shows a man entering the facility carrying a backpack and allegedly jumping into the kennel where Pebbles was housed.
He then placed the puppy into his backpack and left the building, reportedly fleeing on a bicycle.
Pebbles is a brindle and white boxer mix who had recently returned to the shelter from a foster home.
While in foster care, she was receiving medical treatment for ringworm and parasites.
The puppy is microchipped, which may allow authorities to track her if she is brought to a veterinary clinic or other facility.
The shelter emphasized that her medical care remains a priority and is urging the public to assist in locating her.
In response to the theft, the Humane Society of Broward County has implemented a new policy prohibiting visitors from bringing large backpacks into the shelter.
Officials are requesting that anyone with information regarding the suspect or Pebbles’ whereabouts contact the Broward County authorities or the shelter.
A reward has been offered for information leading to the safe return of the puppy.
The shelter continues to review surveillance footage and is working closely with law enforcement to identify the individual responsible.
They are asking the community to remain vigilant and report any sightings or leads that could help recover Pebbles safely.
